Step 1: Enroll in a 75-Hour Real Estate License Course (1 to 6 weeks)
Your first step to get a real estate license in NJ is enrolling in a state-approved 75-hour real estate license course. Don’t worry, this course is flexible enough to fit into almost any schedule.

- Full-time learners: Join our weekday Zoom or in-person real estate classes and finish in as little as 2 weeks.
- Part-time learners: If you’re only available in the evenings, you can complete the course in 4 to 6 weeks.

Step 2: Pass the NJ Real Estate Exam (1 to 2 weeks after completing the course)
Once you’ve completed the course, we’ll officially certify your completion. Only after that can you schedule your state exam with PSI, the testing provider.
The exam includes 110 multiple-choice questions and requires a score of at least 70% to pass. You’ll want to set aside a week or two to prepare, and we’ve got your back with study guides, practice tests, and expert exam prep tools.

Step 3: Get Fingerprinted and Complete Your Background Check (about 1 week)
Next up is your background check. New Jersey requires all applicants to be fingerprinted through IdentoGO for a criminal history check.
This part is pretty straightforward, and most students complete it within a few business days to a week. We recommend booking your appointment as soon as you pass the exam so there’s no unnecessary delay.
Step 4: Affiliate with a Sponsoring Broker & Submit Your License Application (1 to 2 weeks)
Before the New Jersey Real Estate Commission can issue your license, you’ll need to select a sponsoring real estate broker. Many of our students start researching brokerages during the course, so they’re ready to go right after passing the exam.
Once you’ve chosen a brokerage, your broker will help submit your license application to the state. From submission to approval, this step usually takes one to two weeks.

If you stay organized and motivated, you can complete the entire licensing process in as little as 4 to 6 weeks. If your schedule is tighter, the journey may take 6 to 10 weeks, and that’s perfectly fine too.
